Original Item: This Belgian made Martini-Henry first model carbine is another stunning find from our Nepalese cache discovery. It is one of the very few carbines of any type that we recovered in Katmandu.

This is a classic cavalry carbine with sculptured nose cap is complete with ball top cleaning rod in place. This weapon has been painstakingly broken down and cleaned to show that it has in fact been extensively engraved on both sides of the action, down the top of the barrel and on the trigger guard lever.

In the center of the left receiver face is an Arabic inscription that reads "MashAllah" which is a statement of appreciation to God. There is also a Nepalese Negari marking traditionally relating to its capture. Clearly this was at the high end of Arab firepower from the close of the Victorian era, this most attractive and rare little carbine has much history to share. Along with the eastern engraving are plenty of western markings including Belgian Proof marks that were discovered on the underside of the barrel.
